Remixes
Arcuri’s ongoing Remix series is a continuation of the A Shot in the Dark Series re-worked as the title suggests. The iridescent colours, which mimic chemical stains, are created by layering two negatives of the same subject. Each negative is slightly different as the flowers move or change after being ignited by flame. Here you are able to see the difference or change between the ritualistic like floral burns that the artist puts her dying subjects through. The images become almost otherworldly or look infected which speaks to Arcuri’s interest in undesirable fauna and the use of light.
A Shot in the Dark
Lit with stain glass, A Shot in the Dark, works through failed hopes and rituals of letting go or bringing new life. Dead floral bouquets or decorative plants are ignited by flame in darkness and then lit through a stained glass window to contemplate transcendence.
Installations
City of Vaughan
Commissioned by the City of Vaughan for their annual Mayor’s Gala, these images highlight some of Vaughan’s attractions and communities. Using these images as backdrops to performances and speeches during the event, these images literally set the stage. Using bright lighting, long exposure and photo merging techniques each photograph illustrates the space in a way not normally seen.
Projections
By using directional coloured light of projectors and flashlights during long exposures to single out planes in space, these scenes of altered, dramatized landscapes question our notions of landscape history and our relationship with the “natural”. Imposing shapes onto the landscape to explore this complex interaction during an embodied process of performative photography and turn the landscape into a stage. Choosing sites that are easily accessible and sit somewhere between the urban and the wild, these ambiguous spaces sit somewhere between the familiar and the unknown.
